ways to warm

I'll start with a way to not stay warm. This picture below is of Laura right before leaving for the South Pole. Laura gets to take a 3 day working trip to the Pole to take in all the engineering efforts she can stuff into her head. I will admit, I'm a bit jealous of her opportunity to fly off into the sunset-less sky and see the southern tip of the world; but she will be cold!I don't get to see Laura much right now since I am nights, but it certainly warms my heart to know she's around and we have each other to occasionally bounce things off of and spill all our joys and frustrations to!

But, warm thoughts come when I cuddle up with my furry penguin, my afghan from Debbie, and my thick fleece Calvin College Track Sweatpants.

Another one of the treats I gave myself was a French Press for my coffee. It keeps me quite warm! They sell them at the store down here and Laura gave me my favorite Starbucks Sumatra Coffee Beans for my birthday, so I had to find a way to use them! I liked the way the light filtered through this coffee today, so I took a picture of it! This was taken around 23:30. Just another example of how much light is in the sky all night long!Another warm comfort is tea here. I usually have 2-3 tall cups of tea every day. My favorites so far are Licorice Spice and Moroccan Mint Tea. I do miss my Good Earth, though!

I also have warm thoughts with each letter or package I get in the mail; even when it was only a book from amazon.com! I also love getting e-mail from all of you! Keep it coming! I love hearing your stories and seeing pictures from "back home!"

I do get cold. And, I get cold quicker than most. It is going to be such a relief to not have to put so many layers on every time I go to work! But, I am staying warm. The building are well heated; sometimes too well, and when I dress for the weather, I can keep my heat inside my parka.

I'm still joyful here. I still go out on my first shuttle runs and find myself astounded that I am here. I still feel ok having 3 roommates and no personal space. I am still patient with my job. I am content to simply be, here, in Antarctica for a few more months!
