Laura is leaving. In honor of her departure, I suppose I am trying to catch up on time with her. So, last night I was over at her room with some of her friends, prior to live music at Gallaghers, the non-smoking "establishment" in town.

Today, she and I, Michael, and Dan, took the Castle Rock Loop Trail out of town and explored the neck of our island peninsula. The day was a bit overcast, but generally warm. I'm quite surprised and proud of myself for dressing appropriately for weather down here lately. Since the first two weeks of the season, I don't recall having numb or cold toes.

In any case, the trail goes up and out of town towards Castle Rock. It is the neck of an ancient volcano on Ross Island. To get there, we traveled across the ridge that is the peninsula of our island. I was relieved to be out of town for a bit.

Once up to Castle Rock, it's a downhill hike from there. Laura and Dan brought their snowboards and rode them down about a mile, or so. Michael and I met them as they were just finished strapping their boards back on their backpacks.
When we got back, we perused the arts and crafts show. There are many talented people here on The Ice. It's amazing what creations they come up with! Right after that, Laura, Dan, and I headed down to Hut 10 for a fiesta with the most amazing amount of food including tamales and sopapillas! Mmmm...amazing food!
